There have been several investigations on the stability of site specific single layer break-waters, e.g. for S#PHI#vaer Fishing Port, Bratteland and T#PHI#rum (1971) and for Berlevaag Harbour, Kjelstrup (1977). However, despite the frequent use of the single layer design only little systematic investigations of the stability have been conducted until now. During the winter/spring 1997 a series of physical model tests have been conducted at SINTEF with focus on the hydraulic stability of the single layer rubble mound breakwater armour layer and the wave induced loading (Hald and T#PHI#rum (1997)). The present paper describes the results of these tests.
