This paper focuses on an understanding of color generation in light interference pigments. Colors from otpical metal-dielectric stacks have some unique attributes. In addition to the ability of these pigments to change color with viewing angle, these attributes include a wide gamut of colors, high lightness and color saturation. These pigments lack chromaphors and are fast. All colors use the same materials and same layered structure. Color properties are discussed and compared to traditional colorants. Representative consumer items painted with these light interference pigments highlight this paper. The results of durability testing from one colored pigment can easily be extrapolated to other colors.
