Although STEP support the complete representation of product throughout product life cycle, it only contain necessary information about product modelling, such as geometry and topological representation form feature representation, and do not provide any support for the full representation of parts of which a product consists. In contrast, ISO 13584 standard provides a representation of parts library information together with the necessary mechanisms and definitions to enable parts library data to be exchanged. At present, almost all CAD systems have part libraries in order to speed up the process of designing products. However, there is a variety of differences in representation of part library possibly defined by developer local and national standardization organization. As a result, this difference has side effect on exchange of part library between different CAD systems. Based on ISO 13584, the paper present a strategy for exchange of part library between different CAD systems, which is implemented on top of BYL-CAD system.
