摘要

The influence of uncertainties in applied loading and material parameters on fatigue resistance is examined. Based on the assumption that stress cycles can be identified, design methods are given for both proportional loading and general loading. A numerical example of rolling contact, including friction, is analyzed. Monte Carlo simulation is used to estimate the probability of fatigue initiation. A neural network simulation of the 'exact' calculations is employed in order to reduce the computational effort. The design method given here is of general validity for estimating the probability of fatigue initiation during a given operational life. The method sets out from known statistical distributions of load magnitudes and material parameters.
