As an automotive supplier of components, subsystems, and modules, design times are critical along with the need for superior NVH performance. There is a significant need to address NVH issues and requirements from the start of a new program. However, requirements for NVH performance are not usually allocated for individual vehicle components at the concept phase of the project. In an effort to address these concerns, special NVH design objectives have been introduced within the product development process (PDP) that bring these challenges to a high level of visibility in the engineering review process. This paper discusses the issues associated with the NVH related concerns and outlines the thought process behind the NVH requirement review process in the DELPHI PDP. Experience shows that the inclusion of appropriate NVH design steps in the PDP has enhanced product performance.
