The continuing trend towards increased comfort for drivers and passengers in motor vehicles also applies to air-conditioning systems. This has led to a steady increase in the number of air-conditioning systems with fully automatic regulation, which has been accompanied by an increase in the outlay for actuators, sensors and control systems. This paper looks at the question of actuating mechanisms, and shows how by designing a suitable bus system and integrating functionality in actuators or even the sensors themselves, it is possible to implement a cost-effective installation which meets all the requirements for such a system.
