This paper discusses the advances that have been made in embedded system integration, and the hardware/software debug challenges that these advances pose to the software developer. It then discusses alternatives to resolving these software development and debug challenges. Finally, it presents an integrated solution created by Texas Instruments (TI) and its third parties, including a state-of-the-art debug environment, never before available for a DSP core, as a common user interface to be used throughout the development and debug process. This common user interface is used from code authoring, through simulation, to hardware emulation and trace. The solution is composed of advanced hardware to allow multi-processor debug and logic analyzer trace, with minimal intrusion to the application hardware/software.The impact of this solution is a reduction in resource requirements and time-to-market for wireless communications systems developers by reducing code development time and debug efforts.
