This paper presents a study of the combustion characteristics of oil spray for generating an arbitrary concentrations of carbon dioxide in exhaust gases for the optimum after-treatment of carbon dioxide from combustion system. In order to clarify the combustion characteristics, two types of combustion methods-nitrogen gas based combustion method and a carbon dioxide gas based method-were tested. On using a model combustor for spray combustion research, the flame or gas temperatures, combustion phenomena and emission characteristics for these based gases were comapred experimentally. From these experimental studies, the carbon dioxide based combustion technology is preferred for the control of the arbitrary carbon dioxide concentration in flue gases.
