Masonry structures have a complex behavior and are characterized by a high compressiveresistance, low tension and a small ductility capacity. Structure seismic vulnerability is thelevel of damage or loss suffered by the structure at risk associated with a particular level of hazard.Procedure based on the degradation of some structural properties related to stiffness and fundamentalmode shape is used to estimate damage parameters. From these, a structural damage indexcan be estimated. The damage parameters are computed by seismic equivalent linear analysis takinginto account stiffness degradation. A finite element formulation is used to modelise the masonryelements (plane stress element) and joints of mortar (Goodman interface element) with aCoulomb failure criteria. The propagation of the cracks which occur in the masonry wall and theestimation of damage parameters using degradation procedure under ground mode are presented.
