Substrate problems encountered by large area d.c.sputtering systems will be discussed and examples of various defects shown. Some examples of substrate problems most commonly seen are: age of substrate, galss stain, separator and stain reduction material residues, cutting fluids and other organic residues. Other s ustrate defects may be process related and will also be examined.
