Wireless electronic support to the SCAT process

Shoreline assessments made using the Shoreline Cleanup Assessment Team (SCAT) approach generate large quantities of data that need to be analyzed rapidly to support decisions concerning dalily planning. A prototype emergenecy response system is being tested that supports all phases of oil spill cleanup and response. The equipment being integrated includes pen-based wearable computers, global positioning system cards and differential radio beacon receivers, a wireless local area network (WLAN), and satellite uplinke and downlink systems. Field data can be recorded using a penpad linked to the wearable computer.
