Fthyl hydroxyethyl cellulose (EHEC) in paper coating colors-thermally induced interactions and their implications for coated paper properties

Ethyl hydroxyethyl cellulose (EHEC) is a nonionic water-soluble cellulose ether, today used in a variety of industrial applications, mainly in water based paints and in building products. The functional properties lf EHEC by experience show efficiency as a thickening agent, dispersing agent, stabilizing agent, protective colloid, water retaining agent and binding agent. The mentioned properties are essential also in paper coating formulations, why it has been of interest to perform further investigations concerning the applicability of EHEC in paper coating formulations.
