Laterally loaded piles in dense sand: group effects

Centrifuge tests were conducted on a group of two model piles at 40g, in order to investigate the lateral group effect. A method is established to get the P-y reaction curves from the experimental results and test conditions. These P-y curves arecompared to common design codes (P.H.R.I.-Japan, A.P.I.-USA, Fascicule 62-France). Head displacements and bending moment profiles allow the determination of group effect on P-y curves. Coefficients of reduction on the lateral soil resistance areestablished.
