Overturning accidents of mobile cranes induced by penetration of outriggers into the ground occur frequently. Where the overturning moment increases due to rotation of the boom induced by penetration of the outriggers, the relationship between ground deformation and stability of the mobile cranes is complicated. Overturning simulations using models are effective to investigate this interrelation. This paper describes a newly developed model mobile crane for simulation of the overturning in the centrifuge. Stresses at the outrigger floats of the model in flight were arranged to be same as the prototype. Overturning was simulated with increase of moment due to decrease of the boom angle. Moreover, both stresses and settlements at the outriggers were measured during the overturning.
