Openness and Closedness in Architecture

摘要

Various discussions on the openness to the environment and the closendess against environment in traditioal and future architecture are introduced. Physical meaning of openness refers to wide openings in tropical architecture and that of closednes to masonry construction against server coldness outsied. Passive and low energy architecture can be regarded open to the environment as it follows the climatic ocnditions in the respective regios which imply regionalism, while technology based architecture rejecting the natural forces may represent closedness where perfect comfort achievement is the main objective ofarchitecture using a lot of energy and thus disrupting the global environment.
