Since the 1960's, archaeological research based upon the chemical composition of ceramic bodies has developped considerably, but tin-glazed pottery of the modern period-i.e. XIII~th-XIX~th century "falence"-has joined the other post-medieval productions only quite recently. The development of new methods of laboratory research concerning ceramics, with a view to classifying or determing their origin, has closely followed that of the physical techniques of analysis: optic spectrography, neutronic activation, X-ray fluorescence (XRF). The XRF programme presented here was perfomed at the Ceramic Research Laboratory of the CNRS in Lyons in 1996, under the scientific direction of Professor Maurice Picon.
