Since the 1960's, archaeological research basedupon the chemical composition of ceramic bodies hasdevelopped considerably, but tin-glazed pottery of the modernperiod - i. e. XIII~th -XIX~th century "faience" - has joinedthe other post-medieval productions only quite recently. Thedevelopment of new methods of laboratory research concerningceramics, with a view to classifying or determining their origin,has closely followed that of the physical techniques of analysisoptic spectrography, neutronic activation, X-ray fluorescence(XRF). The XRF programme presented here was performed atthe Ceramic Research Laboratory of the CNRS iti Lyons in 1996,under the scientific direction of Professor Maurice Picon.
