CD-ROM VS. online VS. internet: continuous change

Electronc information has evolved from static databases of text delivered on CD-ROM and online into dynamic multimedia interactive storehouses of information. The internet has all but elminated distribution costs making both content and functionality the keys to usefulness. Functionality includes not only research but fulfillment. Electronic commerce will pave the way to dramatic enahncements in both functionality and content and much of it will be paid for by advertising.
