In this paper a single-phase hybrid type series active filter is studied. Comparing with the previous hybrid type series active filter, this filter is used in single-phase circuit based on an extension of the instantaneous reactive power theory. The requird rating of the converter used in the filter is obtained in an analytical expression. The operating and control method of the converter is also extensively investigated. Finally the filtering characteristic is discussed. SImulation and experimental results are given. The analysis solved the problems that exist in the prior work and is also suitable to three-phase hybrid type series active filters.
