Analysis of Water Filled Pressure Vessels Subjected to Blast Loads

Operations involving energetic materials confined in water filled pressure vessels present a potential explosion hazard under certain conditions which introduce sufficient energy to produce a detonation or deflagration. Confinement of the explosion has the potential to produce shock and gas pressures wihtin the vessel which may cause failure of the vessel walls and produce damaging fragments and leakage pressures. This paper describes an analysis of a water filled containment vessel subjected to an accidental detonation of high explosives to support a hazard analysis.
