Protein extraction studies by mixed AOT and nonionic surfactants show that the addition of methyl polyglycoside span (MPGS) series and Span series nonionic surfactants can improve the solubilization of proteins, such as, bovine hemoglobin (BHb), cytochrome C (Cytc) and alpha-chymotrypsin (CMT) in reversed micellesformed with AOT olny. Aot-Span60 reversed micelles are the best system for the extraction of three proteins among the mixed reversed micelles studied. The addition of MPGS60, MPGS20 and Span series to AOT reversed micelles can improve the solubilization of BHb. The solubilization of protein in reversed micelles formed by mixing AOT and nonionic surfactant was affected greatly by the concentratin of inorganic salt in the initial aqueous phase containing protein.
