It is shown that using anticipated filtering, under certain conditions, the solution of the generalised predictive control design always exists and the design leads to stable control systems with definite closed-loop characteristics. The plant cancellation issue is taken into considerations, and it is demonstrated that certain bounds on the design parameters have to be taken into account. A procedure for determination of the design parameters (control horizon, controller gain, and cancellation order) is supplied. The design bounds are discussed, and tuning rules are proposed and validated via simulation.
