Mercury clean-up operations have captured the attention of many commerical firms as well as governmental agenices for clean-up methodologies. Reported mercury spills require specialized training and a good understanding of exposure impact. Mercury is an odorless chemical that vaportizes at room temperature and becomes an exposure hazardous to individuals at great concentrations. This paper discusses the different sampling methodologies, the various sampling/monitoring instruments, and cleanup action goals in accordance with the american Congress Governing Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH), the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). This paper also discusses the various properties and materials that can be decomtaminated or disposed of.
