The kinetic study of ozone decomposition was conducted by an ozone and ozone/peroxide process in a batch reactor equipped with a continuous ozone analytical set-up. The ozone decomposition constant, k_c, was found to be a function of pH, residual ozone concentration, alkalinity and concentrations of H_2O_2 (for ozone/peroxide process). At high pH with bicarbonate present in solution, a strong acceleration of ozone decomposition by H_2O_2 was observed. The higher the ratio of H_2O_2/O_3 (w/w), higher enhancement effect was observed. A reaction kinetic equation for the ozone alone system was developed from a reaction mechanism involving OH~· and HO_2~· radicals.
