PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a decomposition catalyst of hydrogen peroxide or ozone which is inexpensive, can be used in a large amount and has low toxicity.SOLUTION: There is provided a decomposition catalyst of hydrogen peroxide or ozone which contains a layered double hydroxide represented by the formula (1): MM(OH)][A.yHO] (1) [wherein, Mis a divalent metal ion containing at least one selected from the group consisting of Mg, Co, Niand Cu; Mis a trivalent metal ion containing at least one selected from the group consisting of Al, Fe, Mnand Cr; provided that a combination containing Mgas Mand Alas Mand a combination containing Nias Mand Alas Mare excluded; Ais an anion containing at least one selected from the group consisting of CO, HCOand OH; x is 1/6 to 1/2; and y is 0 to 4.]
