Activated carbons were prepared from the mixture of coal and metal (Fe, Ni, Co) complex, and their selective mesoporous structures supporting metal-oxide particles were confirmed with N_2 adsorption isotherms and X-ray diffractionpatterns. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) observation clearly showed disordered carbon microtexture and homogeneous dispersion of nano-scale oxide particles in the carbon matrix. Formation of mesopores in the activated carbons was related with the behavior of oxide particles during the activation process.
