The Ability of Flow Dominance Measures to Predict Manufacturing Performance

In this study we present and evalaute two measures of flow dominance: the relative coefficient of variation and entropy flow dominance. Using a full factorial simulation experiment we provide insights into three main areas: a) the interaction of flow dominance with different product-process characteristics, b) the efficacy of the proposed measures in predicting system responsiveness, and c) conditions under which one measure outperforms the other. These measures reduce routing information for all products into a single quantity that takes values in the interval [0,1].
