Valley Farms, Incorporated (name changed for confidential reasons), currently the third largest poultry company in the nation, pelletizes all feed that is fed to chickens and turkeys. In the poultry industry, 95 percent of the feed manufactured is pelleted and fed to its chickens and turkeys. The industry (and Valley's extensive research) has found that pelleted feed will increase performance of the bird over other forms of feed such as mash or crumbles. The purpose of this paper is to determien the cost of pellet quality (and soem possible economical approaches to help increase pellet quality) which should result in better bird performance and therefore increased profitability.
