C-scan images of ultrasonic immersion scan of sintered alumina and cordierite disc with imbeded foreign materials of pieces of paper, strain of tread and strain of hair are studied. The inclusions are all reduced to carbon after sintering at 1550 degree Celsius. The aim is to quantify the resolution of the C-scan system that has been acquired recently by Nanyang Technological University. It is found that good depth and lateral resolutions can be obtained using focused 50MHz probe. Studies into large pores and cracks in alumina and cordierite has been conducted.
