An experimental evidence is now emerging: high gain coefficient and brigthness can be easily obtained along the Ne-like (1s~22s~22p~5)3p ~1S_o -> 3s ~3p_1 anomalous lasing line in intermediate Z (22-34) plasmas using the low intensity prepulse technique. In order to increase our understanding of its exact role (smoothing of electron density gradients ...) in the J=0 / J=1 amplification, it is crucial to characterize the plasma and exhibit the dependence of the main plasma parameters (electronic temperature, Ne-like ion density and active region size) on the prepulse level and delay. Complete (hydrodynamics, detailed kinetics and X-ray propagation) simulations of an European campaign conducted at the LULI (france) facility are presented and compared to spectroscopic line ratio diagnostics.
