A theoretical model is developed to describe the hydrodynamic behavior of liquid and vapor adjacent to a vapor bubble leading to the initiation of critical heat flux (CHF) condition. The momentum flux resulting from evaporation at the bubble interface near the wal is identified to be an important parameter. A model is developed on the basis of theoretical considerations including the surface-liquid interaction effects through the contact angle. The CHF in pool bioiling for water, refrigerants and cryogenic liquids is correctly predicted by the model, and the parametric trands of CHF with contact angle and subcooling are also well represented.
