This paper presents the BAAL agent-oriented language. First, we recall the main properties that are suitable for Multi-Agent Systems(MAS):modelling ability, dynamic reconfigurability and simulation possibilities. This leads us to the structuring of MAS architecture according to four different layers: conceptual, ontological, coordination and finally operational. We then introduce, through its salient features, the BAAL language aimed at creating entities belonging to each of these layers: the main characteristic of BAAl lies in the structural dichotomy of each BAAL agent, i.e. the division between a metalevel in charge of communication and control of the agent, and a basic level that is made up of a set of other agents grouping the skills of the agent. The implementation of BAAL is also evoked. Finally, one application is described.
