Shear elastic property measurement in vivo using ultrasonic imaging of internal forced low frequency vibration

Shear elastic properties of soft tissues, such as shear elasticity and shear viscosity, may give useful information in medical diagnoses, because these mechanical parameters relate closely to the tissue stiffness.~(1,2) We have already proposed an ultrasonic imaging system which can reconstruct vibration maps inside soft tissue under forced mechanical vibration.~3 This system was applied to the experiments in vitro and internal vibration maps were reconstructed for uterine tissues.
