In the absence of federal leadership, many states have developed chemicalspecific soil cleanup guidelines or standards for use in remediation of hazardous waste sites containing chemically-contaminated soils. The chemicals covered extend beyond the petroleum hydrocarbon constituents for which most states have some standards.
