The effects of cations on lead extraction of lead-contaminated soil were investigated theoretically and experimentally. Calculations using metal-chelate stability constants indicate that iron and calcium were the two dominant inhibitors in the ext raction of lead from lead-contaminated soil. Depending on the pH, lead species and lead: EDTA sotichiometric ratio, bench scale experiments showed that iron inhibits lead extraction but calcium did not have much effect on lead extraction.
