The Passive Optical Sample Assembly Experiments (POSA I&II) are a collection of approximately 900 passive material specimens comprising part of a set of experiments designed primarily for space station risk mitigation. The POSA experiments are to be launched on Space Shuttle flight STS-76 and mounted on the docking module attached to the MIR space station. The POSA experiments will remain on-orbir for about rhirteen months. Return is scheduled for May, 1997. Two meteroroid & debris experiments complete and Materials Environmental Experimental Payload (MEEP). This project is a collaboration between NASA LaRC, MSFC, JSC, Russia's space agency, and Rocketdyne, McDonnell-Douglas, and Boeing. NASA LeRC, IITRI; AZTEK, Sheldahl; and several othe rorganizations have also provided materials and/for test specimens.
