The effect of fuel volatility on the spray distribuktion fo a pressure-wwirl atomize of the type used in direct-injection gasoline engines was inveestigated in a firing opticla engine.Planar laser-induced lfuorescence (PLIF) and planar Mie scatteing were used to visualize the fuel spray.Experiments were performed at three loads (0.3,0.6,and 0.9 bar intake pressure) and two head temrpatures (30 deg C and 90 deg C).Fuel mixtures consisted of doped and undoped isooctane and indolene.Dopants were ketones of varied volatility: acetone (T_b=56 deg C), 2-butanone (T_b=80 deg C),and 3-pentanone (T_b=102 deg C).
