This paper discusses the advanced technique, Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV), used to measure the velocity distribution of double diffusive convection of a binary mixture during the solidification process. The experiments were conducted usingammonium chloride solution in a rectangular enclosure. It was found that the double diffusive flow is stronger at the beginning of solidification and decays as solidification proceeds.
