The ever-increasing demands for precision machined parts has created a renewed emphasis on better understanding of the relationships between process control variables and deviations from perfect geometric form. To meet this demand, it is improtant to have high-precision, high-density metrology data on part features which (in some sense) span the range of variability in form for the process under study. Clearly the problem is a complex one involving the machine tool itself, materials, fixtures, cutters, feeds, speeds, and many other factors. In the work described here we introduce a methodology which can serve to idnetify key analytical deviations fr omform and their dependence on several of the factors enumerated above.
