In many processing techniques for hard and brittle materials, the mechanical procesing using grains is most generally used. Now, the processing methods using grains are classified into two types using free abrasive grains and fixed grains. The method using fixed grains generally uses diamond grains, and it has high machining efficiency as compared with the method using free abrasive grains. However, diamond grains on the tool bring about attritious wear, breaking down and thermal wear, and therefore it has some problems such as deteriorated grinding characteristics.
