In very deep waters scenarios Tension Leg Platforms (TLP) may experience, under severe sea/wind conditions, large response amplitudes in all six degree of freedom of the hull motion. Large heave amplitudes appear as one of the most deleterious effects to the structural safety and integrity of the nost critical components : mooring system (e.g. prestressed tethers) and the hanging risers. This paper shows that logical active control devices may be used to attenuate heave motion amplitudes of such floating structures and, consequently, to preclude precocious damages by improving their dynamic performance and hence safety, serviceability and reliability.
