Considerations in Selection of Miniaturized SMT Connectors for Board to Board Applications

Miniaturized BTB connectors are growing in popularity due to the explosion of portable electronics. Their small size, fine pitch and manufacturing challenges can present problems to component engineers. Problems such as lead coplanarity, current rating, flux wicking and mated height variation can be addresses through new connector design and manufacturing methods. Berg has several miniaturized systems commercially available and under development to address these concerns. Insert molding of fine pitch parts is a reliable cost effective process for fine pitched systems.
