The Multimedia Forum - an integrated digital information service

The Multimedia Forum (MMF) is an all electronic information service including information in the form of text, colour images, digital sound and digital video. The MMF is a prototype of a digital journal which is used in two institutes of the GMD. It provides two environments: one for the readers and one for the editors. The user-friendly interface for the readers (users) allows for the selection of documents to be read (text documents), heard (audio documents) or viewed (images and video documents). The editor's environment supports the distributed teamwork of the various experts involved in the production process of the MMF. Special features of the MMF are:1. integration of the information sources, the media and the functionality;2. handling of digital video which includes the production of digital video sequences in real time and their presentation in real time;3. the possibility of navigating from one document to another via hyperlinks;4. the editorial system support for the production of the MMF, including the conversion into SGML documents.
