Validity of Saint-Venant’s principle in dynamic response of a semiinfinite,composite strip is examined analytically. The lateral surfaces ofthe strip are assumed to be sliding (mixed type). It is found that dynamicresponse of a strip to general end excitation is characterized by low decayrate of end effects, similar to decay rate in the quasi-static problem. It issuggested to utilize that low decay rate, commonly regarded as inferior tohigh decay rate, to advanced monitoring of joints, thereby, calling forreexamination of design concepts with composites.
