DFMA - WHY, WHAT, HOW and New Thinking for the Engineering Community

I think it's time for the next level of thinking for engineering. Our companies need it, our country needs it, and our children need it. Here are six elements of new thinking for engineering: The design engineering community must be responsible for cost. Plainly put, we design it in, so we must design it out. We've heard product cost is designed in; we've heard it's designed in at the early stages of product development; we've heard product cost, once designed in, is difficult to reduce. Nothing new here. But, I don't think we believe because we don't act that way. If we truly believed it, the design community would be responsible for product costs. And we're not.
