Traditional Chinese medicine and pharmacology has a long history of more than 2,000 years and is an invaluable cultural heredity of our nation. With its unique theoretical system and rich clinicalexperience, it plays an eminent role in China's health care system for the prevention and treatment of various kinds of diseases, making great contribution to the health and prosperity of the Chinese nation. Today, traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs) are estimated to amount to ca.40% of the total medicament consumption, in terms of value, and hold an equally significant position in comparison with synthetic drugs and antibiotics.
