Contrary to optimistic prognoses mechatronic assistant systems play a minor role in visceral surgery. This lack of success of the first generation of medical support systems is primarily explained with the high purchase price and the operating costs (5,8). These costs are not justifiable in clinical routine, because of the fail of "real" indications, which is the second most argument against robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery. At present there is no surgical intervention that could not be performed with the conventional technique in the same or even in a better quality (1,2,4). The stable view of the intraabdominal situs or the high precision of movements are bought dearly for a longer operating time and complex steering maneuvers (7,11).
