A Technical Review of the Production and Properties of Composites Powders Coated with Metals for Industrial and Aerospace Applications

This presentation provides a technical review of the composite powders consisting of metallic or non-metallic core particles made with a layer(s) of various metal coatings, in terms of production techniques, properties, typical core materials sizes and shapes used, the market size, the advantages, types of composites currently used and examples of typical applications. An analysis of the conditions needed to make these composite powders will be presented to show the surface character of such composite powders, and demonstrate the thicknesses, the consistency and homogeneity, the parameters that control the formation of these metallic layers and contents of metal possible. The properties of compaction behavior, tensile (or green) strength and elastic modulus, the densities of pressed and sintered compacts will be discussed. These data will be of interest to the academic researchers and manufacturers of metal-matrix composites.
