At the surface of a pure metal in water exposed to radiation, a particular half cell reaction corresponding to the chemistry of the radiation-esposed water occurs. In principle, O_2 and H_2O_2 concentrations in irradiated water can be determined by the comparison of the redox potentials which develop in different pure metals under these conditions. We are developing a new array-type sensor based on this concept to determine O_2 and H_2O_2 concentrations in aqueous environments subjected to under neutron/gamma irradiation. In order to confirm the feasibility of this concept, responses of the redox potentials of pure metals to changes in O_2 and H_2O_2 concentrations were measured under non-irradiation conditions and compared with the calculated potentials. 1. The different dependences of redox potentials of pure metal electrodes upon O_2 and H_2O_2 concentrations were measured. 2. The feasibility of this concept for a new array-type sensor to determine the O_2 and H_2O_2 concentrations was confirmed.
