Strategic Technology Road Map and Academic Road Map for the Robot Industry

Robot technology is expected to play an important role to cope with Japanese social issues such as decrease of birthrate and decrease of labor force. METI, in cooperation with NEDO, has begun practical use of strategic technology road mapping as a R&D management tool. The robots' road map has been utilized when projects were adopted as a part of the 21st century robot challenge program. Hereafter, we would like to advance interactive flow of intelligence which connects basic research to applied research by mutually making use of academic road maps by societies, METI's road maps, and road maps by industries.
